Are you aware that by the time I finish this speech almost 100 people will have died as a result of alcohol abuse, worldwide? In America alone 88000 people died as a result of alcohol in 2013. In comparison, between 1999 and 2007 there were only 26 deaths, in which Marijuana was identified as an underlying cause.
If these statistics are correct then it would imply that either, marijuana is safer that alcohol, or 27000 times the amount of Americans abuse alcohol as opposed to marijuana.
Does this seem accurate? Can I get a show of hands comparison between number of alcohol users number of marijuana users.
I am here to talk about the legalisation of weed and hopefully point you in the direction of being for this plant.
I’m going to start off by talking about the bad side of it, it is a known fact that heavy marijuana users have been known to have a lower IQ and in some cases, depression and psychosis; but note my use of the word heavy.
Now with the positives…
Marijuana helps elevate the pain for people with chronic health conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, many of these sufferers would rather smoke a natural plant than take pharmaceutical drugs.
In the state of Arizona, the government provides a specified amount of the plant to help the patients deal with the day to day stresses of living in pain, in the meantime the government could and should be using the money they have saved on not making new medication on exploring other ways of finding cures for the illnesses. Also, in 2014, Colorado made over $1bn from their marijuana dispenser clinics. More money within the government, is more money for extra healthcare and facilities.
One reason I support weed is because, sounds and visions are enhanced in a way unlike no other. For instants, when listening to music, you are able to hear certain instruments and notes that you are unable to pick up on when not intoxicated; but this is just what I’ve heard.
Smoking for most people, will make them feel more social and confident, the other bonus, when smoking with friends, is surroundings take on a comical ambiance.
Most groups will bond over laughter and sharing jokes, laughing on marijuana simply intensifies the high.
Across the world, gangs have street wars and people are regularly murdered over financial difficulties due to drugs. Its like a food chain, you have the ‘’boss’’ at the top, who distributes his weed to his various dealers, often the lower skilled workers, at the bottom of this chain, are usually more into the drugs than the money and end up smoking it themselves.
I sympathise with police forces across the world  fighting drug crime; it’s a never ending war.
To conclude, marijuana is perceived as a sinful, however scientific reasons have proven that, the intake of of the plant is far better then any form of tobacco and alcohol.
